My Story

I began working in the helping field when I was in my last year of my first bachelor's degree, landing a job with an ABA and disability support company. I worked with this company for 8 years starting as a junior therapist and working my way up. I gained much experience working with many clients with ASD and most with co-morbid diagnosis of anxiety, ADHD or OCD.  I fell in love with helping my clients reach each goal and took pride in the small part I played facilitating them on their journey to success. I developed skills in behavioral therapy, play therapy and teaching self-help skills and social skills. Working with my clients gave me the opportunity to provide supports in a range of environments, from schools, kindergartens, in community settings and client homes. I became acutely aware of the discrimination my clients and their families faced at both a personal and systemic level and I became motivated to do my part to create a world of inclusion and equality for all.

As my client's grew older, some of them were plagued with many of the same issues that neurotypical children and teens face, from trauma to social anxiety, to problems surrounding drugs and alcohol. Some seeked counselling for their concerns, but a common response from parents was that they struggled to find a therapist that could build rapport with their child or provide support in a way their child could understand and respond to, and that support specific to ASD children and adolescents regarding these issues was limited. This planted the first seed for my desire to create equality for all vulnerable groups who were looking for counselling or psychotherapy support and were unable to find what they needed.

Through my post-graduate studies, personal development hours and placement/volunteer experience I have expanded my knowledge to include a range of counselling modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Systems Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive- Behavioural Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.

While I have extensive experience working with persons on the Autism Spectrum and the first 10 years of my work in the helping field was with children, adolescents and young adults, I have expanded my knowledge and experience to include all ages and walks of life. My personal vision is to create a world of inclusion where everyone is afforded the same opportunities. Particularly opportunities to better themselves. Hence, I provide services for all those who seek my assistance and that I feel I have the skill set to assist.
